Buffalo plane crash

This is the most shocking thing I have read about today.  Taken from CNN’s website, a Continental airlines plane crashed into a house late Thursday.  Everyone on board was killed (44 passengers, 4 crew members and one off-duty pilot.), as well as one of the three people inside the house.  Witnesses have reported that the engines were making an unusual sound as if the plane was taking off.  There was also the possibility of icing on the wings, but nothing has been said pending an official investigation.

This just scares me.  For one thing the plane was a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, a 74-seat turboprop, a puddle-jumper.  They do not seem the most reliable type of plane in my opinion.  I remember taking a flight from RDU (Raleigh-Durham International) to Boston on one of those.  I was so scared.  the engines whined and I made the joke about making sure the rubber band was wound tight enough to make it to Boston.   Every wind gust bounced the plane and I actually felt sick to my stomach.

My heart goes out to all the families of the passengers and to the mother and daughter who survived from the house.  Let’s hope that this will bring about tougher policies on these types of planes and the types of weather they can fly in.
